Sarsaparilla is a tropical plant from the genus Smilax. It was used by central American Indians as herbal medicine. It is not just native to South America but also to Jamaica, Me, Honduras, West Indies, the Caribbean. It is also known as the forefather of root beer.
Hogarth chocolate makers recreate its taste with a mix between sarsaparilla, licorice, ginger, and cacao plus orange oil. The extra candied orange purpose is to give a nice sweet zesty bite.
Hard snap. Dark brown color. Floral, spicy, and sweet orange scents.
Now if you don`t know sarsaparilla soda has a particular taste: wintergreen plants, vanilla, and licorice. Indeed this bar starts with very sugary vanilla notes mixed with orange and licorice aromas and a mild woody ginger flavor.
The finish is literally mouthwatering. A bit of astringency at the bottom of your throat with subtle pleasant tangy notes of the candied orange pieces and warming pungent spicy ginger taste on the tip of your tongue.
If you are not a licorice lover, don`t worry. It blends amazingly with the other ingredients and it will close the tasting experience lingering on the tip of your tongue and at the bottom of your throat.
Overall it is a very nice bar.
